Google video chat in Linux - Some dependencies

Another week of testing with the best Linux IM client "Pidgin".  I could configure the Office communicator, Yahoo, MSN and gtalk.  The best feature I can see in this, all chat windows can be accommodate with tabbed option in a single window.  This is very good feature and this was the one, I was searching for a long time, when Jabber ( I was using Pandion client ) was switched to Office Communicator at my office.  I think, I seen this tabbing option only in Pidgin version 2.7.1 onwards.  Here, I tested 2 versions of Pidgin.

Pidgin 2.6.6
My Ubuntu Lucid kernel is "2.6.32-22-generic". This version of Pidgin comes by default with Ubuntu Lucid.  What I had to do is, install the 3 dependencies.  Install the following with the order it mentioned.

1. libmp3lame0
2. gstreamer0.10-plugins-multiverse
3. gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
4. pidgin-PPA packages

After these 4 items installed, I had tried to restart the services of pidgin, but was not successful.  So, had to reboot the notebook ( it hardly took a min ). Everything came up perfect.  This is because, pidgin-PPA need a reboot to re-profile.

There were few problem with this version I found.  The first issue was my client hung, when I receive a video call from gtalk user.  My webcam is activating automatically, but it wait for something to push in front as "A call from user, Accept / Deny"?  I seen this window, once I waited for more than 15min.  But there was no use; because the other end user got disconnected.  Gmail chat window won't call for a 15min long wait.  Second issue, when I tried to open a video chat with gmail user, it was disconnected with error "The Conference error".  I don't know what this stuff and couldn't trace it anywhere.  But I realized one thing, when the other party is already in another call, this error come.  But for my situation, the other party was not in the call some times.  Finally, I switched the user to "Super User", root.  Configured and started the pidgin at root user, it perfect.  I can make video calls and end user can see the video as well.  But still the bug of hanging is biting me.  I raised a ticket with pidgin team. If anybody wish to debug and find out the issue, you can check it.

Pidgin 2.7.1

This is more advanced version and it has tabbed messaging function.  You need to install the all four dependencies, as stated above.  Yesterday, I tried the video chat, there was no issue at my side, but other end they couldn't see the video.  Just noticed in "Ubuntu Software Center" found the pidgin-PPA was not configured properly.  Re-installed and configured it.  Now need to test it again to see, how things work.   But still the hung on call from gmail is biting.  I think, some call function is waiting, when it receives a call from other party ( third party from pidgin point of view ).

I will test this version with new PPA and will update soon.
