MIFC2008

MIFC, which stands for Malaysia International Fireworks Competition. This year, we decided, not to miss the event as like last year. It was on August 29th, Grand Final, by Australian team. When we look at the name MIFC, feels, it only at Malaysia. But, it is an international version. The event consists of 4 different days of functions from China, Spain, Australia and Malaysia. Due to my duty schedules, I have missed all three session but got chance to see the grand final by Australian team. After this event, all teams will move to Australia for the next firework event of the year. Probably, everybody must have familiarized by that as it comes in all news medias with fireworks above sydney Opera house.

Initially, we only three guys was ready to go for the event, as this event starts at night 9:30pm and ends at 10:00pm. Due to high traffic conjussion and transportation risks, many said no for this. But we three decided to go ahead. Then other fellows got interest. We left from KL around 7:00pm by KLIA transit. It took 15min to reach Putrajaya. From there we got free shuttle services to the event location PICC (Putrajaya International Convention Center). Then to walk around 2km to reach the top of the PICC hill. We could see, people occupied the good spots and set their camera to welcome the grand final show. Till the previous day, heavy lashes of rain hits in KL, but we feared, it may spoil the event. We could even see the thunders, which was blowing somewhere over the KL or Seredang area.

We too found good spot. This was my first event to take the snaps on my DSLR. I decided to keep this as a training session to learn, how to catch the good shots of Fireworks, night landscape shooting etc. By 8:30pm, we set up our equipment and started shooting the night landscape pictures. Hmm... the trail session was not bad. (see the pics here : MIFC Photos). I was trying with different, aperture settings, ISO and shutter speeds. I can say 90% of my experiments was successful.

Then was waiting for the event to be started. As the fireworks, the first few minutes would be real testing time. I set my camera for the shutter speed priority with ISO 400. The first shot was too bad, but the shutter speed range I feels good. Then, I changed some settings, primarily ISO drop down to 100. This time feels much better. Another major change was done by changing the white balance. I opted for the bright sky, as the fireworks gives lots of brightness, I feels this would be good. Yes, that was ultimate. Then my finger was not resting till the end of the events.

Since the huge crowd was there, we were running to catch the shuttle bus to train station. But Police stopped at PICC bridge, as the cleaning and detoxic of the place was yet to be completed. By 11:00pm, they opened the gate and reached home by 1:00am early morning. Overall, the event was successful to me.

Hmm. It took a while for me to set up the correct, shutter speed, aperture, exposure and all to get those good snaps.

The show was only 30 min. First 10min I lost many shots due to setting up the camera.

In fact, those bridge photo, you can see in another snap, it is almost 2-3 km far from where I took the snap.

Totally satisfied that day.
